Management of type 2 diabetes (T2D) has evolved beyond glycaemic control. Current UK practice recognises T2D as a multisystem vascular condition, requiring an individualised holistic approach that addresses cardiovascular (CV) risk, renal risk, and long-term complications alongside haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) management.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of this continuing education course, participants will be better able to:
- Apply current UK guidance (Association of British Clinical Diabetologists-UK Kidney Association [ABCD–UKKA] and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence [NICE]) to the management of type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD), including the management of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors, blood pressure, lipids, and antiplatelet therapy, alongside glucose lowering
- Optimise and offer holistic treatment plans by combining lifestyle modifications, blood pressure, lipid, and glycaemic targets
- Integrate evidence-based pharmacological interventions (sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 [SGLT2] inhibitors, glucagon‑like peptide‑1 receptor agonists [GLP1-RA], and finerenone in conjunction with secondary care) for CV and renal protection
- Evaluate case-based clinical scenarios in primary care (CV risk, CKD progression) and apply UK guideline recommendations to real-world practice
